Discussion Week 1 Personally, I have not had any incidents where I did not wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in the work environment. I have only known the Army mechanic lifestyle in my line of work, so I have not had the opportunity to be inside and work inside a gunsmithing workshop. I have only seen the inside of their workshop, and when they are working on the different weapon systems we have, they are wearing full PPE i.e. safety glasses, safety gloves, aprons, head cap, and mask. When my team and I are working on M1A2’s, we all wear the proper PPE, because all it takes is one accident and that soldier’s life is on the line. We have very little parts on an M1A2 that won’t cause harm, so it is very important for my team to always wear the proper PPE. I have seen soldier’s get hurt not wearing the proper PPE, it could be something simple like not wearing their helmet (ACH) while they are inside the M1A2, they start to stand up and smack their head on the corner of the gunner’s handles or side plate corner next to the gun tube and then they are bleeding a little because they chose to not wear their helmet (ACH). The type of protocols I would expect to see are the same type of guidance we use in the Army, at least for my shop and team. We always ensure to have the motor pool SOP posted on the wall next to the entrance/ exits of the doors and every mechanic and or Tanker has the proper PPE before getting on or in a M1A2.
