The pros of the VBMAPP assessment are that it is comprehensive, individualized, evidence based and tracks the progress of the learned with each assessment completed. The cons for this assessment are that it is costly, can be very time consuming, and may over/underestimate the skills of the individual if motivation is low to complete the task or if the assessor is not well trained. I have seen this in my current clinic firsthand. They had a trainee completing VBMAPP assessments that was incorrectly scoring items or was not testing items completely. This ended up skewing the scores of several clients and made it appear that they had regressed skill wise but were scored higher than was appropriate. This was also “fixed” but it brought attention to an issue with properly training assessors. The pros for the ABLLS-R assessment are that it is comprehensive, more user friendly and does not require specific training for the tester. The cons for this assessment is that it is not developmentally sequenced (like the VBMAPP), does not address sensory or behavior issues, and can also be time consuming to complete. The pros of the PEAK assessment have high inter-observer reliability, high validity, is a norm referenced assessment, and offers a standardized measure of the child’s growth . The cons of this assessment is that it requires intensive training and may not be an appropriate measure for children with early-stage language delays. Personally, I would use the VBMAPP when assessing my clients because it is one that I am the most use
