Osteoporosis: Bone is living tissue that is constantly being broken down and replaced. Osteoporosis occurs when the creation of new bone doesn’t keep up with the loss of old bone (Mayo Clinic, 2024). It is essential to educate our patients about the risks factors and what changes can they made to prevent or improve the conditions; these are known as modifiable factors such as dietary changes includes increase intake of calcium, vitamins D. Too much consumption of caffeine, protein, and sodium. Physical activity is important since a sedentary lifestyle can weaken the bones, it is important to have a balanced exercise routine like walking or doing some weightlifting. Smoking and alcohol consumption is another risk factor that can be avoided to prevent osteoporosis (Pouresmaeili et al. 2018). Unfortunately, there are non-modifiable factors for example age, sex, genetics, race and early menopause. As a nurse we often help guide our patients through new diagnosis and treatment. We support our patients by educating them in the best way to ensure proper care, medication regimen and little changes necessary to make in their life to improve the symptoms of osteoporosis or further complications, since the bones are already weakened it is important especially in orderly patient to prevent falls. This group of patients are at the highest for fracture. We are involved in proving resources to help them manage their health and have a positive and effective healthy life.
