Role 1: Supervisor – played by another learner, family member, friend, assessor) During the role play you will play the role of the supervisor. You will be called over to assist with the situation. You must ensure the safety of yourself and the case worker. Ensure that you and the case worker our out of the way of any danger. Make a call to the police to report the incident and remove him from the premises. Observe the student as they play the role of the case worker and record your observations of their performance in the Assessor Checklist. Role 2: Jerry – played by another learner, family member, friend, assessor) During the role play you must appear to be very intoxicated. You will knock on the door for your appointment and stumble into the room. You must slur your words, appear annoyed that you have had to attend the appointment and say things such as ‘I don’t even know why I need to be here’, ‘this place is such a waste of time’. The case worker will try to calmly sit you down and as they do, you must become agitated and yell at them, saying things such as, ‘I don’t want to bloody sit down’, and ‘leave me alone, you stupid idiot!’ As you attempt to sit in the chair you must fall onto the floor. As you lay on the floor and try to get up (very slowly) you must begin to threaten the case worker. You may say things such as, ‘you want to fight, come here then’ and ‘you better watch it mate, I’ll knock your teeth out’, ‘come on, let’s go’. At this point the case worker will call over their supervisor who will take control of the situation and call the police. As they are on the phone to the police, continue to act intoxicated and abusive until the conversation had ended. Jerry You are employed a case worker at First Access. One of your clients, Jerry, has alcohol dependency and has just come out of a rehabilitation facility. He has arrived for his weekly Wednesday 12 p.m. appointment, appearing to be very intoxicated. He is slurring his words, stumbling, and has a very strong smell of alcohol. He tries to sit down and slides off the chair, falling to the floor. He is becoming loud and aggressive towards you.
