Original Question

PHLT 8500: Advanced Biostatistics For this Assignment, you will use SPSS skills to conduct simple biostatistical analysis. If you have not used SPSS before, this week will serve as a brief introduction. If you are already familiar with SPSS, this will be a refresher. You start byfamiliarizing yourself with the data by producingdescriptive statistics—numerical and graphical—appropriate for the level of measurement of the assigned variables. Remember, a statistical analysis is not complete without your interpretation. The Assignment Refer to the MODULDATA 1_3 (SPSS Document), located in the Learning Resources. Use SPSS to open the dataset and complete the following: A) Develop a research question: 1. A researcher wants to conduct a study on risk factors associated with having a heart attack among participants in the BRFSS study. 2. Using the MODULDATA 1_3, select at least 3 risk factors. One from socioeconomic variables (employment status, income level, education, marital status, or race), one from behavioralrisk factors (smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, or obesity) and one other health condition (diabetes, cholesterol, or blood pressure). 3. For each selected variable, develop an appropriate research question (RQ) to examine the association between the risk factor and heart attack. In other words, develop three RQs. B) Conduct descriptive statistics: 1. For each research question, produce proper numeric descriptions for the selected variables. NOTE: Be sure to use the appropriate descriptive statistics for the level of measurement of the variable (Hint: Use mean and standard deviation for continuous variables and frequency for categorical or nominal ones) 2. For each research question, produce graphical descriptions for the variables listed in Part 1. Be sure to use graphical presentations appropriate for the level of measurement of the variable. (Hint: Use box plots and histograms for continuous variables and bar charts for categorical and nominal ones) 3. At least one table generated by SPSS that is relevant to the research objective/question and is properly formatted. 4. For each research question, interpret the results from Parts 1 and 2. Produce awritten summary that includes the research objective(s), research questions, results, and findings of the analysisnarrative that includes information on each of the variables and their association with heart attack. Again, be sure that the narrative is appropriate based on the level of measurement for each variable. 5. Produce a Word document which contains: a. RQ1, numeric and graphic descriptive statistics and your interpretation. b. RQ2, numeric and graphic descriptive statistics and your interpretation. c. RQ3, numeric and graphic descriptive statistics and your interpretation. NOTE: All reported analyses (i.e., tables, graphs, and interpretation) should be in APA 7 format, including references, and titles for tables and graphs.
