Make the email listed below to flow smoothly and sound professional and with respect. Good morning Mrs. Duggan, I hope you’re doing well. I spoke with George Brown (CNA Union Rep), he wanted me to update you on concerns and requests I have about new grad shift availability at SDSC. Before entering the ORTP and while currently in the program I have been very vocal via email and verbally to all educators and management in my interest in a shift at SDSC. When my cohort was asked which Pod/dept. we were most interested in, I would always express my interest in Same Day, as it the departure I came from. I have particular interest and a great history with ophthalmology surgeons at SDSC. Surgeons who are all in route to back me up and are ready for me to come back the same day for circulating training. In a previous email Ian stated, “We typically do not send new grads to specialty units (CSC, SDSC, and in the future, 48X) unless they take an assignment for that location.” SDSC was never on the list of available shifts to the new grad cohort 52, and my circumstances are different as I am not your typical new grad nurse. I was trained specifically in ophthalmology for SDSC, before its grand opening. I have vast knowledge (of 19 years) in ophthalmology surgeries, minor procedures and lasers. Currently Same Day has employed a nurse from the ORTP. With no other OR experience or training other than the OR training program, Georgianna Katsifolis finished the last two months of her ORTP at Same Day, where she then was hired. Ian also stated, “The shift assignments offered to your new grad cohort reflect the department needs, and unfortunately, there were no SDSC positions available.” This statement is not true. At the time cohort 52 received their available shifts, there were two open shift at Same Day, in which I applied for but was denied. One position has since been filled, and the other is still open. As you may know, Same Day will be losing 10 of their OR staff (including 7 nurses) to 48x. In response to Ian’s email Francis Mae Riester replied, “Considering these departures, I strongly believe there is a need for a strategic plan to integrate the Periop training program into our unit, similar to other areas you mentioned. The Same Day Surgery center should be included in these training opportunities to maintain the quality and specialty skill set our patients rely on as done in the past.” In this same email Ian also stated, “In the future, if an SDSC position becomes available that you are able to bid for and receive, you would be given a few weeks orientation time to learn about the nursing role at SDSC before you would be expected to take full assignments.” Will this stand true???
