How would you go about helping the client to address them? How would you help promote an HIV/AIDS client’s knowledge and skills of positive health and recovery? How would you assist the client in maintaining those skills? CLASSMATES REPLY- When clients are being treated for substance use, physical and sexual health problems can occur and become a problem. Some of these include sexually transmitted disease, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, unwanted pregnancy, and other illness related conditions related to high-risk behavior such as needle sharing, unsafe sex, and uninformed self-care (Brown et al., 2007). Medical problems often accompany addiction patterns and require treatment approaches to work through those in an integrated manner. Working with clients to resolve or at least minimize the frequency of cases, I would begin with wide-ranging health screenings and build connections with doctors who are an expert in addiction awareness. Education is a useful tool and providing clients with frank, nonjudgmental facts about disease transmission, condom availability, avoiding pregnancy, treatment, and how to avoid harm. For HIV/AIDS patients, I would seek to educate them on medication adherence, boosting the immune system, and drug use as opposed to viral load control (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2025). Encouraging clients to keep up with their health knowledge is about working together to set goals that support both their recovery and their overall health. I would help clients acquire beneficial skills like medication management, family planning counseling, recognition of signs to be noted by a physician, and building healthy habits. Support groups specifically designed for individuals facing both addiction and chronic diseases can provide valuable peer support and mutual insight. These competencies need to be maintained up to date through constant reinforcement of frequent check-ins, constant education, and overcoming barriers to health care access. I would help clients establish positive relationships with their health care provider and systems of follow-up. And underlying issues such as trauma, mental health, and social determinants of health need to be addressed in order to be successful long-term in both the treatment of addiction and chronic disease management.
