respond tot his discussion (Planning new health IT projects can be challenging. Preparing for a health IT project starts with developing the main goal of the project. For example, a health facility may identify the need to implement a new EHR system. EHR systems or electronic health record is a digital system which stores patient’s medical records. In addition to housing important medical records, EHR system have the functionality to improve several clinical processes such as registration, rooming and medication management. When planning new health IT projects, important decisions may need to be made as a collective. Because the project may involve different departments it is important to bring those responsible for certain decisions to the table. According to Koshbin, J. P., (2022) The creation of high-quality and durable infrastructure is required for rapid economic development and requires a sustained investment that is supported well by technological innovation, a skilled workforce, and good project management. For implementation of new health IT projects I would include the head of finance, IT, clinical operations and the medical director. Implementing new projects of any kind can be costly. It is imperative to plan for the cost of the project. Partnering with the head of finance is important. The head of finance will be able to determine if this new IT project can be profitable to the organization. The head of the IT department will be responsible for ensuring the new the system or application is effective and secure. The IT department will also be responsible for providing technical support and resolving any IT issues that may arise. The head of clinical operations is needed to facilitate communications amongst all departments and the medical director can ensure the project aligns with the needs of clinical staff and the patients. As the manager of medical support in my current role, I have had the opportunity to oversee implementation of new health IT projects. I currently manage 3 departments who support the clinical operations team administratively. My referral department is responsible for referral authorizations. The PA or medication prior authorization team is responsible for facility medication authorizations and lastly my medical records team are responsible for releases of patient information and other health information management tasks. We currently use an EHR system called Epic. One of our current health IT projects is, utilizing our Epic system to automatically authorize some referrals. The goal is this project is to ensure patients receive their referrals in a timely manner and to also reduce the amount of unnecessary work for the referral team. To elaborate, based on the patient’s insurance and type of referral authorization may not be required. I have partnered with our EMR or electronic medical records team, our IT team, as well as clinical and medical leadership regarding this project. Because we already own or EHR system Epic, I did not need to include our finance department. This is because this project will not cost any additional money. Our EMR team are creating the processes that are needed by the system for referral authorizations. Moreover the EMR team will assist me with training the clinical staff on the new process. Clinical and Medical leadership are needed to ensure the clinical staff are utilizing the system correctly and adhering to their trainings. I am responsible for providing the EMR team with the requirements and/or scenarios in which a referral does not need authorization and can be authorized by the system. Based on my personal experience this is why I think these would be the best stakeholders when planning any new health IT project.
