Instructions Respond to each question based on the case study below: Patient presented with painful swallowing after a fish fry and felt as though something was stuck. Imaging was normal and it was decided than an EGD was necessary. After obtaining consent, the patient was brought to the GI lab for the procedure. He was sedated and the endoscope was inserted. Under direct visualization, the scope was introduced orally and the esophagus was intubated without difficulty. The hypopharynx was examined and no abnormalities were found. The proximal esophagus was normal and no lacerations, perforations, or FBs were observed. There was no active bleeding. The scope was advanced and at the gastroesophageal junction a small fish bone was found. It was removed through the scope without complications. The scope was advanced further into the stomach where partially digested food was noted. The duodenum showed signs of mild duodenitis without bleeding and a biopsy was obtained. The endoscope was carefully removed and the patient was moved to recovery with stable vital signs.
