Original Question
Sabrina is a 46-month-old girl referred to our clinic accompanied by her mother for an evaluation for occupational therapy. Sabrina lives in an apartment with her mother, her father and no siblings. She is a cheerful and resilient young girl who was diagnosed with Erb’s Palsy shortly after birth. Her condition is a result of difficult labor. Sabrina was delivered at full term through assisted vaginal delivery using forceps. Upon delivery, it was observed that her right arm was medially rotated and adducted while her forearm was extended and pronated. In addition to these physical symptoms, Sabrina also experiences sensory loss in the lateral aspect of her right upper limb with little movement in the fingers. Sabrina’s mother mentioned that despite her disability; Sabrina could attend daycare daily. During daycare, she could engage in good social interactions with her friends and participate in games that required minimal use of her affected hand. Sabrina’s overall growth and development aligned well with her age and was progressing appropriately. The pediatrician referred Sabrina to occupational therapy due to noticeable delays in fine and gross motor development compared to her peers. The parents have expressed concerns about the child’s difficulties with dressing, and feeding. Design 2 evidence-based intervention activities (with reference in the last 5 years) using a Neurodevelopmental frame of reference. As well discuss how the activity can be upgraded & downgraded.
