Original Question
Do a respond to this post’ When it comes to rural and urban healthcare settings access seems to be the biggest difference. The lack of access for rural communities, however, can be a benefit because the healthcare providers are able to spend more time with a patient since they are not overloaded with patients due to being in a lower populated or more spread-out populated area. The extra time spent with the patients allows for happier patients, better patient outcomes and patients are more likely to be involved in their own treatment. The cons of lack of access for the rural communities is that obesity is a huge health problem, especially with children, because their diets lack nutrition and are high in calories. The lack of access kicks in with this because they do not have close access to dieticians or weight management professionals which deter them from seeking treatment. Like in the urban communities you also have those in poverty which makes seeking help from healthcare providers even harder on top of a decent car ride to get to the provider. There are a lot of benefits for urban communities when it comes to healthcare because they are big city communities which is where more healthcare providers and specialists have their offices and clinics. There are also more hospitals in urban communities than rural ones, sometimes there isn’t a hospital within 30 minutes of most rural communities. Because urban communities are big cities the access problem for rural areas is not as much of a problem but the poverty aspect of access to healthcare is still a big concern because there are big poverty/lower income areas within cities/big cities. Urban communities also battle obesity as a high health concern but due to what is being called the sitting disease. A lot of jobs in cities are corporate or office jobs which require a lot of sitting and looking at a computer. Being inactive for 8 hours a day by sitting has an impact on our health, especially if we do not find a way to exercise outside of work hours which for those with families is difficult because you go from work to being at home with your family to clean, cook, spend quality time, etc. Both communities face the same health problem of obesity just from different causes and also face the problem of those in poverty and their access to healthcare. It does seem that if you live in an urban area, you will have a better chance of receiving care from a specialist if needed because they are more likely to be in urban areas over rural areas.
