Replay to the following discussion post : Use in citation properly When I worked at the bedside as a nurse in the hospital, it was not uncommon to see certain illnesses stigmatized. The most common diseases I’ve seen have a stigma around them are HIV, hepatitis C, and fibromyalgia. Some people have a common misconception or stigma that only certain groups of people can get AIDS or HIV. According to Conerly et al. (2021), they have found that stigmatization of illness has the most significant effect on a patient and the care they receive. Another example of this is that some medical doctors will diagnose someone with fibromyalgia when they cannot find any other reason for their pain, as there is no specific diagnostic test. Some medical professionals look at patients with this diagnosis of fibromyalgia as drug seeking or pain medication seeking because often the severity and wide range of symptoms may make it difficult for others to believe the condition is real. When I did bedside nursing, I would try to not judge people for what illness they have and treat them the same regardless of the situation.
