Original Question

physiological impact When a client has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), it is essentially a lung disease that limits their airflow, not allowing them to breathe normally, which also includes conditions such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The different kinds of physiological impacts that would occur within the patient would be airway obstruction, alveolar damage, mucus production and hyperinflation. When talking about Airway Obstruction, it means that the inflammation caused by COPD can make the airway thinner/smaller, restricting their breathing, making it difficult for the air to move in and out of the lungs. Alveolar damage (air scars) in the client’s case, will prevent them from taking in more oxygen as well as decrease their way of removing carbon dioxide as he or she is normally supposed to. Bronchitis, which is mucus production, can deeply hurt the client because it has the ability to block the airway causing issues with airflow as previously mentioned. Hyperinflation is another issue that can occur within the client. It can cause their air to be trapped inside of their lungs causing them to expand, making it harder to breathe and causing something more severe like them ending up with a barrel shaped chest.
