Original Question

Here are some instructions for this assignment in my Scholarly application course for OT grad school. Basically, explore the legislative process by selecting a bill from your state’s website that relates to occupational therapy practice or the clients we serve. This can be a broad topic, as long as you can make a reasonable argument for its relevance to OT in your podcast. The goal is to engage with the legislative process, reflect on its implications for your future practice, and consider advocacy strategies. The legislative bill that I chose is SB 7016, which is the Live Healthy act, and it increases Medicaid reimbursement for OT’s with having more efficient quality of care. I will attach some links below of the legislative bill websites that will help fill out most of this information but also make sure to use OT terms since this assignment is meant to explain why this bill in particular relates to occupational therapy and its advocacy for healthcare benefits. https://www.flsenate.gov/Committees/BillSummaries/2024/html/3515 https://floridasoccupationaltherapy.gov/latest-news/new-legislation-impacting-your-profession-2024/ Bill Information: What is the bill number? Where is the bill in the legislative process (e.g., was it passed or rejected, are they still working on it)? What is the purpose of the bill? What would it do in practical terms? Relevance to OT: How does the bill relate to occupational therapy or the clients we serve? Advocacy: How would you advocate for or against this bill? What strategies would you use to influence the bill’s outcome? Provide 1-2 well-chosen OT advocacy examples. Reflection: Reflect on your experience watching the meetings. Identify what you learned about the world or yourself? Are you passionate or not passionate about this subject? Is there anything you might do differently in the future? Did anything surprise you? Why? This section should be a reflection, not a recap of what happened.
