SPECIMENS: Tonsils ESTIMATED BLOOD LOSS: < 10 ml COMPLICATIONS: None. CONDITION: Stable to recovery. INDICATIONS: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy, sleep-disordered breathing and obstructive sleep apnea (severe) DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: Patient was brought to the operating room, placed in the supine position on the operating table. General anesthesia was induced and the patient was intubated. The table was rotated 90 degrees, the McIvor mouth gag was inserted and the palate was palpated. A red rubber catheter was placed through the nose and out the mouth to elevate the palate for visualization of the nasopharynx. The adenoids were removed using the suction Bovie and tonsils were removed using needlepoint cautery. Hemostasis was achieved using suction Bovie.
